Meet the Cast: Diane Ficarra

Diane Ficarra

Diane Ficarra is joining us for her first V-Day performance, which we find surprising considering her wonderfully prolific theatrical career! We are so lucky that she is sharing her talents with our audiences, and we can’t wait for you to see her on the stage!

Q – How long have you been involved in theater?

“Lets just say I’ve been involved in theater since high school, so it’s been a long time. I’m trying not to make myself look too old. I’ve taken really long breaks here and there, but I’ve been acting since I was 17.”

Q – What are some of your favorite recent productions?

“Favorite recent roles: Maria in ‘Lend Me a Tenor’, Mrs. Stevenson in ‘Sorry, Wrong Number’ (which was a radio performance), Nora in ‘The Thin Man’ and Lenore Helms in ‘The Man with the Plastic Sandwich’”

Q – What made you want to be involved in V-Day this year?

“I have never performed in Vagina Monologues and I saw that you were auditioning for it and I thought that it would be fun. I just finished Lend Me A Tenor last month and was looking for the next project. I felt this would be interesting.”

Q – Who is the most influential woman in your life?

“Certainly my mother has been very influential in my life. That would probably be true for most women.”

Q – What or who inspires you?

“I am inspired by people who are passionate about what they do and live life with purpose.”

“10 years.”

Q – Have you performed in the Vagina Monologues before?

“Yes, once. It was last year and I loved every second of it!”

Q – What made you want to be involved in V-Day this year?

“I think the cause is great as well as the people who do it each and every year.”

Q – Who is the most influential woman in your life?

“All of the women in my life are important and extremely influential because they each have different stories and experiences to learn from.”

Q – What or who inspires you?

“I find a little piece of inspiration in everything I see or do.”

Meet the Cast: Erica Skoglund

Erica Skoglund

Erica Skoglund and her friend Zoe are two of the amazing “Safe Kids, Strong Teens” Prevention Educators at Sexual Assault Support Services (SASS). Erica and the SASS education team see over 10, 000 students a year from Kindergarten to High School teaching a range of age appropriate topics such as personal body safety, bullying, healthy teen relationships and images in the media. She and Zoe will be making their V-Day debut this year, and we are so happy to have them with us!

Q – How long have you been involved in theater?

“That depends on your definition of ‘theater’… I was in an original play in 7th grade and I have done countless campfire skits and storytelling ventures throughout the years. I also worked for a puppet theater for two years outside of DC. This is my first official production. Yeehaw!”

Q – What are some of your favorite recent productions?

“Gwen in our latest puppet show for SASS.”

Q – What made you want to be involved in V-Day this year?

“I’ve always wanted to be involved but I have always missed the dates to audition – and I think, honestly, I was nervous, so I may have missed them on purpose – but this year I was determined to try. I work as an educator for SASS so V-Day is near and dear to my heart. Anything that helps spread the work about SASS is something I want to be a part of!”

Q – Who is the most influential woman in your life?

“My Mom. I am the woman you see today because of her.”

Q – What or who inspires you?

“Creativity, Humor, Jim Henson, people who can be spontaneous, bad puns and word play.”

Meet the Cast: Amanda Giles

Amanda Giles

Amanda Giles has been a longtime Yoni Activist and a wonderful supporter of V-Day. Her earthy Goddess energy, open heart and passion for womankind bring such a rich dynamic to V-Day 2014. We are so very happy to finally have her as part of our cast this year!

Q – How long have you been involved in theater?

“I’ve been involved in theater since high school when I was a killer stage manager. My back stage work continued into college when I did college shows at BU, and also worked with community theater groups such as Nashua Theater Guild and ActorSingers. I then went on a long hiatus and my only recent involvement has been as an audience member.”

Q – What are some of your favorite recent productions?

“My favorite shows ever to work on were when I stage managed Shakespeare in the Park in Nashua. The first time we went traditional and did Midsummer Night’s Dream (it was also the city’s first time). But the second year we did “Taming of the Shrew” in a western setting with some slight script modifications. I will always think of Baptista as “Big Daddy Baptista” and remember fondly the twangy pronunciation of “guitar” and how it was broken over Hortensio’s head.”

Q – Have you performed in the Vagina Monologues before?

“I have never performed in Vagina Monologues before, but I’ve been blessed to see at least 3 different productions of the show.”

Q – What made you want to be involved in V-Day this year?

“The message of V-Day has always resonated with me as very important as well as its community aspect. And I’ve loved the monologues ever since I saw the movie they made of Eve’s performance. I’ve often thought it would be great to perform in and I’m excited to be in this year’s production. I’ve also just always had a fondness for open talk about sexuality and I think this show helps promote that, especially for girls and women who have been afraid to talk of such things.”

Q – Who is the most influential woman in your life?

“Definitely my mother Kim – she was a pull yourself up by the bootstraps kind of woman. She was the first person in her family to go to college and she got 3 degrees via night school (1 Bachelor’s and 2 Master’s) while working full time and raising me. She taught me that I had to be my own white knight and that life has to be fun. She passed away very young (50), but she touched and inspired myself and many others with her adventures, wit and antics.”

Q – What or who inspires you?

“I adore Ada Lovelace for not only being the first computer programmer, but for viewing it as a “poetical science”. I wrote code myself for a living and there is a poetry and elegance to code which I strive for myself. Two modern women who inspire me are Ani DiFranco and Amanda Palmer. Ani DiFranco proved you didn’t have to work within a system that didn’t support you, and that you could control the terms of your work and how it was released into the world. And Amanda Palmer took that to the next level by showing you could give away your music and just ask fans to contribute what they felt it was worth. Both woman unabashedly speak their mind and I love that about them.”

Arielle Todd is such a vibrant addition to this year’s cast, and we are delighted to have her! Her infectious smile, her endless positivity, and her beautiful heart are what makes her an amazing V-Day activist.

Q – How long have you been involved in theater?

“I have been in theatre since I was 12 years old. I have performed in many plays during high school but this is my first time on the stage since graduation!”

Q – What are some of your favorite recent productions?

“My favorite production that I’ve been a part of to date would be Metamorphoses back at Marshwood High School in 2008.”

Q – Have you performed in the Vagina Monologues before?

“This will be my first time performing in The Vagina Monologues and I couldn’t be more excited!!”

Q – What made you want to be involved in V-Day this year?

“I decided to take part in V Day 2014 because I want to be a part of something bigger than myself. V-Day is empowering. It is dynamic and exciting. Women need V-Day.”

Q – Who is the most influential woman in your life?

“My mother and my grandmother both influence me. My grandmother was a nurse and she had SEVEN kids. She’s pretty amazing. My mom had me when she was my age which is insane to think about. She did it all by herself. My mom didn’t have anything handed to her. She worked hard to provide for me. I’m very grateful that I have such a strong woman for a mother.”

Q – What or who inspires you?

“I’m inspired by so many people/things. Cecile Richards, Abraham Lincoln, Jenny Brown, Wendy Davis. Anyone who stands up for what’s right”.
